Special Techniques is a dance studio that let’s your child’s unique abilities shine! Inspired by Dancing Dehvin, our studio choreographs classical and modern dance styles to accommodate the needs of children with varying degrees of ability. Our goal is to boost confidence, encourage social engagement, and help students feel safe and supported. Instructors have been strategically selected to lead your child to the rhythms of life!

Class Descriptions

BALLET BASICS

This is a 45 minute class for ages 6 years of age and up that teaches the basics of ballet. Ballet is a beautiful form of movement. Ballet teaches students how to carry themselves with grace and poise. In this class the student will learn the ballet basics, flexibility, elegance and confidence. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: CHRIS

BEGINNER BALLET

This is a 30 minute class for ages 3 years of age and up. Ballet is the “backbone” of all dance training. In this ballet class the student will learn grace, elegance, technique, discipline, flexibility, stamina, and endurance. We strongly feel that ballet is the most important dance form that a child or adult can study. We offer Ballet for all ages and abilities. This class is taught a routine and will perform in recitals. No experience needed. INSTRUCTORS: NINA & SENTJE

BEGINNER CHILDREN’S DANCE

This is a one-hour class for children 3 y/o and up including ballet, tap and tumbling in a combination. Basic skills in ballet and tap are covered. Simple routines in both ballet and tap are taught for recitals. No experience needed.

CONFIDENT CHOREOGRAPHY

This is a one-hour class for ages 14 years of age and up. Confident Choreography is Hip Hop that is designed to help the dancer loosen up, gain rhythm, and have fun in an aerobic workout. This is a great way to get a good workout, have fun and gain confidence. This class is taught a routine and will perform in recitals and community opportunities. No experience needed. DANCING DEHVIN & THE GET FRESH CREW

This is a one-hour class for ages 10 years and up. This is a hip-hop class based class. We will be focusing on one song routine at a time to perform at seasonal recitals. The class will be focused on having fun, gaining rhythm and memorization. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: EMALEE & KE-KE

FAITH YOGA/STRETCHING YOUR FAITH

This is a one-hour class for ages 10 years of age and up. This class is a form of bhakti (devotional) yoga. Faith Yoga includes prayer, meditation, movement (worship to the Lord or Prayers in Motion as we like to call it) rest and stillness. This class includes praise and worship music, a room diffuser, candle light. Come prepared to worship with your whole soul. Bring a mate, water and a surrendered heart. You will encounter a Living God who longs to spend time with you! No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: NINA

HIP HOP AND PROPS

This is a one-hour class for ages 8 years and up. This is a hip-hop class based class where we incorporate the use of props such as pom poms, hula hoops, parachutes, bean bags, maracas, hats, etc. are used to enhance the learning experience. This is great for working with special needs on sensory and motor skills. This class is taught a routine and will perform in recitals. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: KE-KE

HIP HOP REDEFINED

This is a one-hour class for ages 8 years and up. Hip-Hop Redefined strives to bring a workout that caters to all shapes, sizes and ages. We promise to bring you music that will keep your interest and routines that will challenge you! We offer multiple classes with instructors that are dedicated to giving you the best workout experience. Hip-Hop Redefined was designed with you in mind! INSTRUCTOR: MARKESHA

HIPPITY HOP

This is a one-hour class for ages 3 years and up. This is a hip-hop class based class where we incorporate the use of props such as pom poms, hula hoops, parachutes, bean bags, maracas, hats, etc. are used to enhance the learning experience. This is great for working with special needs on sensory and motor skills. This class is taught a routine and will perform in recitals. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: EMALEE

LINE DANCING

This is a one-hour class for ages 10 years and up. This popular class will keep you moving with fun dance steps performed to a variety of music. Line dancing is both fun and great exercise! No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: KIMBERLY

LYRICAL

This is a 45 minute class designed for ages 3 years of age and up. Lyrical is all about expressing yourself through moving to the words of a song. Because moving to words of songs can be done with your legs, arms, or any body part. This makes it a great class for those with special needs (including those in wheelchairs) and traditional students. It is all about listening to song lyrics and interpreting them through movements. This class is taught a routine and will perform in recitals. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: CHRIS

MOMMY & ME MUNCHKINS

This is a 45 minute class designed for ages 18mo – 3 years old. An introduction to dance for our very youngest dancers. You are invited to attend an 8 week session of “Mommy & Me”. These classes are structured to stimulate coordination skills, listening skills, balance, music interpretation, creative movement and motor development in the youngest dancers. This program is an excellent introduction to the world of dance. A parent or guardian participation is required.

MOMMY & ME SPECIAL TECHNIQUES STYLE

This is a 60 minute class designed for all ages (this is determined by our parents and/or guardians. An introduction to dance for our very youngest dancers. You are invited to attend an 8 week session of “Mommy & Me”. These classes are structured to stimulate coordination skills, listening skills, balance, music interpretation, creative movement and motor development in the youngest dancers. This program is an excellent introduction to the world of dance. A parent or guardian participation is required.

OPEN DANCE

This is a one-hour class for ages 11 years of age and up includes ballet, lyrical, tumbling and jazz in a combination. Basic ballet and tap is taught. Tumbling and basic introduction to lyrical are alternated. A lyrical routine is not performed in this class. The students continue to master and fine-tune their basics. Routines in ballet and tap become more complex for the recitals and community opportunities as their skills progress. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: EMALEE

PERFORMANCE POSSE

This is a one-hour class for ages 10 years and up. This is a hip-hop class based class. The class will be focused on having fun, gaining rhythm and memorization. We will be focusing on one song routine at a time to perform at seasonal recitals and some community events. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: EMALEE

SIGNING THROUGH SONG AND MOVEMENTS

This is a one-hour class for ages 3 years and up. This style teaches the body to move as an expressive tool; body/spatial/sensory awareness, structures and alignment, stage presence and gesture while incorporating sign language. This class is taught a routine and will perform in recitals and community opportunities. No experience needed. INSTRUCTOR: MARHA

YOGA

A class that gives beginners a chance to try out yoga in a non-intimidating fashion. Students may flow through poses with breathing or work on poses individually. Anyone is welcome to attend since most poses can be modified to fit your individual practice. No experience necessary. INSTRUCTOR: NINA
